Update December 2016

It’s been a while since we’ve given a formal update and as the end of the year is fast approaching we thought there’s no better time, so here’s what’s been happening with Learning Journals over the last couple of months….

iOS App

app-store-logoWe now have a dedicated iPad app available for you to download free of charge from the App Store. Many of you will know that this is something that we have spent most 2016 working on and we are now finally in a position to release it to all users. It’s going to be a huge timesaver, especially for those of you who struggle with a wifi connection.

Open the App Store on your iPad now and search for Learning Journals

This is our first version of the app and and the follow up is already in development with many lessons having been learned from our first experience. At the moment the first version of the app is only available to staff and can only take observations (so there is no reporting or daily diary functionality). Our target date for the release of V2 of the app is May/June 2017. This will bring almost all the functionality of the website to mobile along with an Android version, parent logins and smartphone compatibility.

New improvements

Most of our recent work has been behind the scenes, but here are some things that you may not yet have spotted:

  • Parental contributions – allow parents to upload their own observations to a custom area. See here for details
  • Gallery – staff and parents can now upload directly to the gallery
  • Saved for later observations appear highlighted in the main profile so they can be found more easily
  • Site titles and web addresses can now be changed free of charge
  • Bulk upload of child data through the configuration tab and an excel template

New Pricing Structure

Our current pricing structure has worked well up until now, and if you have been using the system for a while you will know that we offer tremendous value for money. To make sure we are still doing that we are going to be changing our pricing from January 2017.

We haven’t had a price increase since March 2015 and,  although some of our larger customers will face an increase to make their per child costs proportional to smaller nurseries, our new pricing structure will mean a reduction in price for many customers. This new pricing allows us to offer:

  • Video uploads included at no extra cost
  • Daily diaries available by request at no extra cost
  • Fairer pricing model for smaller settings

New Team

We now have two more team members that you may speak to in the future:

Sharon Reilly comes to us with experience in care and nursing home software and you will be seeing her up and down the country visiting schools, nurseries and exhibitions.

Ria Beeson previously worked with a network of international schools and so brings her experience of the global education sector to Learning Journals. If you are based outside of the UK you will likely speak to Ria.

It would be good if photos could be downloaded into gallery and later used for obs as ,at our school, we have to share ipads with several teachers and it is difficult to get acces at work to complete obs!

      Hi Louise,

Thanks for the suggestion – that’s something that we can add to our (long) development queue.

    Hi Dave,
Can the parents see the Save for later highlighted posts? I usually just write a couple of words until I’m ready to complete my observation. I know other staff members can see them, and I would prefer if they were only seen when you hit publish, like it was before!

      Hi Laura!

No the parents can’t see the saved for later ones – those are just for the staff.
